Buy Local

In recognition of the opportunity for BC producers and processors to capitalize on the growing appetite for local products, the BC Ministry of Agriculture’s Buy Local Program offered $1.5 million to businesses and organizations to increase local food promotion. Thanks to overwhelming interest in the Buy Local Program, funding has been fully committed and over 30 domestic marketing projects are underway across the province.

Buy Local allowed businesses and organizations to access up to $100,000 in matching funding for projects that promote local foods, including agriculture and seafood products that are grown, raised, harvested, or processed in BC.

From seed potatoes to shellfish, wine to agri-tourism, farmers’ markets and more, Buy Local has provided support to help BC’s diverse food industry develop customized promotions specific to their market and needs.

The B.C. government’s Buy Local program is administered by the Investment Agriculture Foundation. For more information on the Buy Local program visit http://www.gov.bc.ca/agri/buylocal.html and www.iafbc.ca

The Investment Agriculture Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that manages and distributes federal and provincial government funds in support of innovative projects to benefit the agriculture and food industries in British Columbia.
